Appian Thrive case study

Role: Graphic design and art direction

AppianThrive was launched to inspire and educate DC Public School students about the fascinating world of STEM. The program is a weekly after school initiative, starting with sixth grade and continuing with the same group of students year after year.

Challenge

AppianThrive needed a brand identity to complement the curriculum and ignite young minds. The team had to strike a balance: Ensure the program appealed to a wide range of ages and interests, be easy to consume, be interactive, meet accessibility standards, and be completed within the tight deadline of three months.

Solution

With the goal of captivating young minds, I designed a vibrant, colorful, interactive branding approach, drawing inspiration from school workbooks to invigorate the program’s visual essence. I created two 160+ page coaches’ guides, two 60-page interactive student workbooks, a dynamic website, fun swag, presentations, and a newsletter for Appian employees.

Results

The branding and curriculum resonated profoundly with the target audience, attracting new volunteers (100 so far!) and 30 coaches to further promote the program. To top it off, the project was executed within the three-month timeframe and set budget.
